When the Camellia Blooms

Hai. Been a year, and I'm not proud for this achievement. Over a year since my last post, it absolutely proved laziness and how bad I am in procrastination.

In 2019 there's only a few serial TV I watched and named two of it, are last season of Game of Thrones and When the Camellia Blooms (this is K-drama). The reason why I looked forward for this K-drama and I even beyond excited for it is because the lead actress was Gong Hyo Jin. I'm so proud watched it till the end, and without any skip on any episode. Why so? Because, should I stated again, there was Gong Hyo Jin! She's my favorite K-actress. For you who with me through this blog maybe already know that I like her much, very much, almost like an obsession. That's why I suggest you to watch the drama too. Not only because there's her, but also because of the good story inside.

It tells about a single mother Dongbaek (Gong Hyo Jin) who runs a bar-restaurant (it named Camellia) in small village, Ongsan. There she deals with gossip, romance, jealousy, neighborhood, family matter, and even a serial murder case that happened to be related to her. The genre is like a compilation, so personally I think you’ll enjoy it with the romance, comedy, mystery, family issue, friendship, and self-improvement message they served. You’ll get a combo by watch it.

On episode 37-38 there’s a conversation between Dongbaek and Mrs. No that hit me up. I write it in Bahasa cause I used Bahasa as subtitle.

Mrs.Nooo: Aku hanya memesan baby tumis.
Dongbaek: Semua berpikir pelanggan adalah raja, tapi sebenarnya ini kerajaanku. Aku hidangkan yang kumau.

Mrs.Nooo: Kenapa kau tertawa seperti itu? Senyummu ...., agak mengintimidasi.

Dongbaek: Apa aku mengintimidasimu?

Mrs.Nooo: Sebagian orang mengira kau takkan bisa bahagia. Mereka mendapat kenyamanan dengan mengatakan mereka iba kepadamu. Tapi kau cukup pandai tersenyum. Senyummu juga manis. Tidak heran ini menyebalkan, tentu aku terintimidasi.... Ngomong-ngomong kau harus terus tersenyum. Tunjukkan pada semua orang seberapa besar kebahagianmu.

Dongbaek: Begini, aku menyerah bahagia terang-terangan sejak dulu.

Mrs.Nooo: Kenapa begitu?

Dongbaek: Anggapan orang tentangku adalah urusan mereka. Dahulu, aku merasa kebahagiaan seperti nilai ujian. Aku biasa melihat nilai orang lain di papan dan memikirkan posisiku. Tapi, tak peduli betapa keras aku mencari, aku tak menemukan jawaban. Jadi, kenapa aku harus tetap mencarinya? Aku menganggap papan nilainya permainan mereka dan menilai hidupku sendiri berdasarkan standarku. Hanya bahagia dengan standarku sendiri yang kubutuhkan dalam hidup, 'kan?

Mrs.Nooo: Tampaknya hatimu memiliki kebun bunga sendiri. Sementara nilai ujianku bagus, masuk sekolah hukum ternama ..., tapi tak ada bunga mekar di diriku.

I'm awaken by that conversation, our life and the way we live is on our hand. The thing that should we hold is religion and moral values we had. I believe both of it teaches us about being good person. Happiness comes from ourself and isn't defined by others. Are we going to be happy when we take the way they took? Is there any guarantee? 

This is why I'm happy and more happier with this drama. Because I can see her effortless style (I don't know whether she worked with her previous stylist or what) and she wore some crocheted-things! Yes, CROCHET! There's bag and hat she wore. I feel so proud cause I do crochet, and the person I like wore it. Okay, I'm little bit too much talking about her wore crocheted-things.

Meaningful Dramas

I know I know.. What I post is kind of out-of-dated. It's so late to post it, but I will use common excuses "better late than never." In this post, I do general review of four dramas that stuck in my mind cause it's kind of realistic and I can relate to the point of the story, the problems that characters face. I think it is nothing to lose to learn from the story. So, let me begin..

The first drama was aired in 2016 called Dear My Friends [ 디어 마이 프렌즈 ] and it had 16 episodes. It wrote by No Hee Kyung who also wrote many hits drama. See the poster below, and realize that the cast are grannies? Yes, your eyes are fine. The casts are great and the story was marvelous. The story tells us that no matter how old are you, having friends is a must. It because as getting older, you will have more limitation physically and in some cases mentally (senile disease, like Alzheimer's). The story also tells us that being older means you will feel more loneliness when your spouse and your children is away. But it doesn't mean that you have to independent on yourself cause you always have them to lean, to share the feeling that burden, to enjoy the smile together. Being older also doesn't mean that you are mature as much as the number of the age you have. You may still doing wrong and it's not matter as long as you know, admit it by saying sorry and try to fix it. Become wiser in the old age needed you to keep the mind open. I love this drama and I like the OST of this drama that Kevin Oh sang, the title is Baby Blue. Do hear the song, and you'll love it too.

The next drama is Avengers Social Club [ 부암동 복수자들 ] that had 12 episodes and it aired circa 2017. It was adapted from web-comic. This drama really tells us that everything happens for a reason, whether lesson or blessing. As friends that came from very different background, the four characters were very open and gave their sympathy and empathy to each other. They help one another without doubts cause they believe in each other. Money won't bring you anything unless you spent it wisely.

The third drama was aired right after the Avengers Social Club ended, it called Wise Prison Life or some named it Prison Playbook [ 슬기로운 감빵생활 ]. It had 16 episode and the director of this drama is someone who directed Reply series (Reply 1997, Reply 1994, and Reply 1988). At first I was a bit doubt cause the genre is black comedy. But as I watched it, I felt why it called black comedy, and I didn't take it as a matter. Even, I enjoyed the drama so much cause it really made you laugh, yet slapped by the meaning of the story. The story is about life in prison, specifically group of people in one cell. They didn't even imagined end up there cause various crime they committed. As the maturity must comes first, together they learn about sharing and caring each other. They build friendship after many problem their friends face, and their very own matter. Like an onion layer, sensible thing comes, that we can't judge criminal just by seeing their crime but we have to see and understand that behind their action there is a story. It doesn't mean that we have to understand when someone killed, robbed or do something dangerous to another. But there is a tolerance of every action, right? And to tolerate means to understand the story behind the action.

The last drama that I recently watched in this year is My Mister [ 나의 아저씨 ] that had 16 episodes and directed by someone who directed Signal, Misaeng, Cinderella Sister, and other great dramas. The drama really tells us whatever happened in the life make what you become now. The struggles make you independent, even when you still young and actually needed guidance from grown-ups. But for how long? At some point, you'll need someone to lean on and to share the thing that you can't bear it alone. The story also tells us that when you broke a trust, it won't easy to fix. You may give forgiveness for your own sake cause holding grudge is not easy too and it is even harder.

Last words, 

Do not underestimate the meaning of friendship, cause without any friends, what will live be? Life is difficult enough, and although storm will pass anyway.., having friends beside is the best way to face when we lost in the storm, right? 

Everyone has their own past that lead them to be who they are now and who they will be in the future. So, blaming another for the difficulty or sadness that happens in our self is not fair cause we have the other options, to adapt and make it better or even make it beneficial instead. 

Maturing is a process that is happening every second in our life. No one say it is easy, but is it the meaning of maturing - life learning?   

[k-drama] Master's Sun

So finally the first and second episode was aired, right after watched it I told my self to write and make it one of my post. I was waiting for Master’s Sun because there are Gong Hyo Jin and So Ji Sub. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of them,  I have a pretty high expectation for Master’s Sun and sadly I don’t have any other reason for it. I read a short synopsis of this drama, felt lil bit absurd yet creepiest because there are ghost and horor stuff but like many other k-drama we can guess the ending will be. Ok, actually I’m trying to make it right bet.

To be honest I’m lil bit  scared watched this drama because of the creepy things.. But I don’t know why I like it. Now, I just try to make some good paragraphs about it.

Gong Hyo Jin become female lead character and she’s really into it. She’s acting like weirdos because she can see “the things” what normal people can’t see. Like others drama, there is always a prince charming for the lead main actress and luckily So Ji Sub play this role. So far, he didn’t  act like prince charming actually, he play as a someone who love money the most yet we know that he has a pain that he keeps in his heart. But hey! Everything can change and it’s just only 4 episode which the ending was so romantic, there are 12 more episodes to go!*excited by my self*

First episode is always about the introduction, let us know each characters on this drama but I think it pretty strong intro where we can see some creepy ghosts and because of one of them Gong Sil meet Joong Won. What a nice scenario writers! I guess there will be some cases that Gong Sil should be resolved that related to the ghost she meet while she has to help Joong Won catches the culprit who kidnapped him, made him dyslexia and even made his girlfriend died....

One cases are solved, “the other” comes and asked for Gong Sil help. By those time, Joong Won believes that “the other” are exist and no more thinking Gong Sil crazy because she always act weird. The ghost is stay away as long as Gong Sil touch Joong Won's body. I envy her for that chances!*drooling* Back to the story, Joong Won make Gong Sil as his "expensive radar" because the sixth sense that Gong Sil have will help his bussines. I’ve told ya, he loves money and he damn cool to act as a chaebol!*smirk*

Also there are supporting actor and actress that are Seo In Guk (Reply 1997) and Kim Yoo Ri (Cheongdamdong Alice), respectfully. Maybe there will be triangle love. I won’t really make a synopsis of each episodes of Master’s Sun because I think I’m lack of ability to write that kind of writes that is “into it”. I suggest you who want to read the synopsis in dramabeans

I just neomu neomu choa this drama, although I have to cover my eyes with pillow whenever I felt “the creepy things” will come. I hope you guys also like this drama, it is the refreshing one.

Cheongdamdong Alice

This is one of must-watched drama for me. Why? I have some reason.. First, there is Park Shi Hoo. Second, he is very handsome. And third, he has acted freakin' funny for some scene. Doesn't make sense? Ok, that all reason is just my opinion, my point of view. But you can believe me, if you want.. :p

Honestly, it's true when I said I watched this drama cause there is Park Shi Hoo. I like him since his last drama Prosecutor Princess even when he has bad role there. It was about his revenge. Aaaa, in Cheongdamdong Alice, Park Shi Hoo also do revenge. Same person, same revange but different feel... You’ll see..

Back the topic, this drama adapted Alice In The Wonderland story with korean drama style. You know... Korean drama recipe, there are love, money, friendship, revenge, family. Smells nice?

It tells about an ordinary girl named Han Se Kyung who is leave by her boyfriend named So In Chan. She loved his boyfriend sincerely so she want to make him comfort with her. But he decided to give up because of the situation is hard for him and for Se Kyung too. In Chan works in Artemis and he has a problem in his office. Se Kyung try anything to help  matter at the office which is then made her meet the director of Artemis, Cha Seung Joo.

Cha Seung Joo who ever hurted by his ex, fall for Han Se Kyung. Han Se Kyung success touch Seung Joo's heart. But Se Kyung face her hard life so she meet her old friend, Seo Yoon Joo which was Seung Joo ex-girlfriend. Yoon Joo become high class person cause she married with a rich man in Cheongdamdong. FYI, Cheongdamdong is the bussines area, where rich people live their life. Se Kyung need advice from her friend Yoon Joo so she also can enter Cheongdamdong. They are both actually doesn't really close friend. Yoon joo tell her that her secret is by catch a white rabbit, like Alice who enter many door while trying to catch the white rabbit. So she asked Se Kyung to catch one if she want to enter Cheongdamdong.

In the other side, Seung Joo did his revenge to Yoon Joo cause she leave him only for money. And he also did revenge to his own father who has abandoned him.

Se Kyung doesn't know that Cha Seung Joo is the director of Artemis, cause he pretend to be Secretary Kim and work for Cha Seung Joo. Day by day they become closer. Se Kyung realized that she love Secretary Kim. But it's opposed with her aim that is to catch her white rabbit, Cha Seung Joo. But Se Kyung isn’t stupid girl, she feels something fishy, so she try to find out who Secretary Kim really is. Yet, she doesn't success to find out cause Seung Joo and his truly secretary cover it well.

One day, Se Kyung know the truth from her bestfriend. She confuse whether she should give up or continue her relationship with Secretary Kim. Then she decide to continue, pretending that she doesn't know anything. As expected, after Cha Seung Joo heard that Se Kyung love Secretary Kim,  he confess about the truth to her. Se Kyung also want to tell all the truth.

There is another problem, Seung Joo will be set on married with GN Fashion's daughter Shin In Hwa which is sister-in-law of Yoon Joo. Is it fate? No! The writer did all.. Hehehehe. The machmaker of this married is Tommy Hong. Actually he is a designer, matchmaking is only his side job. Tommy Hong did anything to separate Seung Joo and Se Kyung. But then he change his side by support Se kyung. Why? He ever on Se Kyung situation. Big problem comes from In Hwa, she try to destroy all. Even when she has to make her family bussines on danger. And yes, she did it sucessfully. Nyiahahahaha.. *sukurin!*

Even that, Se Kyung still on problem. She did't reveal his secret to Seung Joo yet. When she try, some people around tell her don't ever reveal the truth cause that will hurt Seung Joo so bad. She really love Seung Joo and she won't lie to him. When everyone know the truth, including Seung Joo, finally Se Kyung tell him too. Seung Jooo doesn't accept reality. It's part of his disease.. He blame Se Kyung cause ruin their good moment. He will escape to Paris, but Se Kyung try to prohibit him to escape from the problem.

Se Kyung hasn’t given up, she try again to prove her love, she answer all seung jo question. But Seung Joo want deny all her answer. He only believe what he want to believe so it's so hard to Se Kyung. But, finally they end this drama with happy ending. Happy ending also happen on Seo Yoon Jo and Tommy Hong. Although they suffer when they support Han Se Kyung.. Now they are happy with their own life.

J-Drama : Rich Man, Poor Woman

Just finished J-drama titled Rich Man, Poor Woman. Oh My.. I'm in love with TORU HYUGA. I should do apologize to my other boys. This serial has reminded me about typical of J-drama that more real-life than K-drama. No Offend. I still love K-drama, indeed. From this drama I'm learning about passion on our work, the important of being social-human, and to be honest with someone we really care about (deeply go to their character :p) Chemistry and conflict between Hyuga and Natsuki made me can't wait with the ending of both of them. Are they happy? Or they won't go together? I don't want to talk to much. This drama is highly recomendded to watch. Enjoy every episode. Enjoy the handsome and cool and interesting character of (especially) Shun Oguri, Ishihara Saromi and the other casts.

Can You Hear My Heart

Just finished read Korean drama synopsis “Can You Hear My Heart” and yes, I’m in love again. Such as a player.. please excuse me ;p I don’t watch this drama cause some reason. I really enjoy read the synopsis. I recommend you to read it here She wrote the synopsis very well and she also added some funny comment.. I like the way she comments cause I also feel like her. the story of this drama is almost general,  tells about money, love, family matter. but still very interesting. this drama tell us about an important lesson in life. we don’t have to be perfect person but we have to be good person to love and get love from the other. Simple, but not every person can be. I’m very touched by the way Bong Woo Ri and his dad live their life. they got so much love just being their self. Another lesson I got is, being together with family is the best home ever..  TOGETHER :D
